Review: The Secret Poet

The Secret Poet The Secret Poet by Georgia Beers
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
Finished on March 19, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "You can show up midafternoon and launch a kiss attack on me like this any time you want."

1.5/5 rounded down

I really didn’t want to have to write a negative review about this book. I’ve read several Georgia Beers books previously and I enjoyed them. This book however, I felt every second of this book. This book took me several days to read because I just could not focus on this book for any length of time.

Favorite Scene/Quote: "Tonight, you're mine."
"I've always been yours."

3.75/5

This was a nice, enjoyable read. It’s about 250 pages long and features two likeable characters. I’ll likely reread some time later when I just want something short and sweet to make me happy.

Royal Court Royal Court by Jenny Frame
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on March 27, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "If you have the slightest chance to live and love, you have to grasp it with both hands, because you never know when it will be taken from you."

I’ve read many of Jenny Frame’s books and I think this book has to rank as one of my favorite works by Frame. By the second chapter I was attached to this book and I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep until I finished it.

Review: Homecoming

Homecoming Homecoming by Celeste Castro
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on March 22, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Only hope lived in Dusty's heart now. Hope for a positive future with the woman that had come into her life, turned it upside down, shown her how to move on and live in the moment."

3.75/5 rounded up

I thought this book was a nice read. Not too much drama that it felt overdone, well-written, and some personal favorite tropes of mine.

Finished on March 16, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "You were pissing me off."

I read Pale Wings Protecting and knew that I had to read the book where Rafe and Ashley got together. It was a nice book, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other book.

Review: Leveled

Leveled Leveled by Serena J. Bishop
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on March 14, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: Perse trying to tell her parents about Stef

This book is an absolute joy to read. The characters aren’t anywhere near perfect and that’s acknowledged. They make mistakes and fight, but they also help each other through it.

The review for this book is hard to write because my feelings about this book are complicated.

Favorite Scene/Quote: "Don't let anyone else's past dictate how you respond to your present."

I had originally intended to break up the book into two or three days so that I wouldn’t burn myself out of the story. However, I was hooked about 20% of the way through the book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on March 11, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "I need you to understand that the minute you let someone else tell you who you are or how you feel is the minute you start to lose the best parts of yourself."

This book is an amazing story of fauxmance to romance in the lives of the rich and famous. I needed a couple chapters to really get into the story but once I did, I was hooked.

This is a cute book with an interesting story, but I just didn’t click with the story.

Favorite Scene/Quote: "That's what I think our relationship has—great bones."

The biggest compliment I can give this book is the thought that ran through my head through most of it: this book reads like a romantic comedy.

Requiem for Immortals Requiem for Immortals by Lee Winter
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Finished on March 8, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "She had talked to a child once. It had not run away."

Based on the reviews I read of this book I expected it to be better than it was. The writing is good, and the story is interesting, but I just couldn’t get into the book. I forced myself to finish the book simply to fulfill a category in a challenge.

Review: Life Rewired

Life Rewired Life Rewired by Lynn Galli
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on March 5, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "She felt curvy and pliable and she smelled flowery. All the things I'd been attracted to. Not one of them affected me tonight. Vivian was right. My type had changed."

4.5/5 rounded up

This book is split into three sections. Each section takes a first-person point-of-view switching from Falyn to Molly and back to Falyn for the ending. This book is also a romance between two butches, something I don’t see often and something I wish I saw more. It also involves Falyn being an ex-felon.

Review: One Day You'll Leave Me

One Day You'll Leave Me One Day You'll Leave Me by Debra Flores
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on March 5, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "If you traveled back in time and had to do without modern conveniences, which one would you miss the most? The answer is central air. Screw the internet."

This book surpassed any expectation I had for it. Debra Flores wrote an amazing book that still managed to shock me even as I was nearing the end parts of the book. By the fifth chapter, maybe earlier, I didn’t want to put the book down. It was amazing and I adored how Flores played the time travel aspect of the story.

Party Wall Party Wall by Cheyenne Blue
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Finished on March 2, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: Their first date

This is my first Cheyenne Blue book, and I don’t know if it was the best way to start off. I’ll likely try more of her books in the future, but this book didn’t work for me.

Review: Conflict of Interest

Conflict of Interest Conflict of Interest by Jae
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on March 1, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "It's not a coincidence that the guys and gals with the sloppiest handwriting always get promoted fastest. No one wants to spend hours trying to decipher their reports anymore."

This isn’t my favorite work by Jae but it’s a good read. Trigger warning for sexual assault, rape, and the like.
My biggest issue with the story was that it felt a little too bogged down with the police and court side of things and I just don’t normally enjoy those parts. They were well-written, but I couldn’t get into them.
