All Scarlet Bridge wants is to get through her last year of school, overcome her brother's shadowy legacy, and win the prized scholarship for college. She's not about to let anyone stand in her way, not even everyone's favorite Golden Boy, Levi Henare.

Levi loves rugby, his family, and teasing Scarlet Bridge. With a tough family situation at home, he has his own reasons for excelling both academically and on the sports field.

When Scarlet accidentally dials Levi's phone number, a chain of events that neither expected is set into motion.

Thrown together by a twist of fate, will they come to understand and appreciate each other, and themselves or are they destined to remain at daggers drawn forever?

My Rating: 4.5/5 stars

My Review:

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but I did want to read it. I will admit at first (completely based on the cover) I thought it was a serious adult book, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a Young Adult romance. I was lucky enough to receive a digital arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoyed Scarlet and Levi. They each had a brand of sarcastic humor that works really well with me, but they also knew when it was time to get more serious. They each had their own issues to deal with and journeys to go on, but it was also nice to see them help each other with their issues. I especially liked them together. They had a fun dynamic that, even when they’ve stopped hating each other, was full of flirting and teasing.

Most of the side characters in this book are actually really fun. No one is portrayed as a perfect character, and everyone seems to have their own stuff to deal with. We don’t get as in-depth with the side and background characters but they each feel unique and honest. The only characters I didn’t really enjoy where the parents. Read the book and find out if you’re curious, it’s complicated and doesn’t feel right to get into right now.

I really enjoyed the representation in this book. I can’t really speak to the accuracy of the representation, but there was plenty of it to go around. There were people of color, LGBTQ+ characters, characters struggling with mental illness. It was nice and none of them seemed to be judged because of their identity. For other things sure, but not because of who they are.

This was a fun enemies-to-lovers slow-burn (and believe me when I say it was a slow-burn). There was time allotted for the two characters to spend more time with each other and get to know each other. It also made sense with the story. The context and plot were handled in such a way where it made sense that they would spend time together.

This was a fun read. It wasn’t horribly long (~270 pages or so) and it was amusing enough where I didn’t feel the pages go by.

Favorite Quotes:

"It should have been written in the skyline that: I, Scarlet Bridge, was straight up having a bad time." -Chapter 1

"I don't know how to deal with this."
"But we'll figure it out together." -Chapter 18

"Sure, we were no America, but that wasn't the bar." -Chapter 21

"I didn't know if I felt safe in such close proximity to someone who wears Crocs." -Chapter 37
