Thank you so much to TBR and Beyond Tours for allowing me to take part in this tour for This Ends in Embers. I read the first book last year (I think, timeline is fuzzy) and adored it. So I've been waiting on pins and needles for a chance to read the sequel and I am so happy to finally have that chance.

Elara Vincent—the new Empyrean—must undo the damage her sister has caused. San Irie has been brought back to the brink of war as Iya proclaims no nation will be safe from his brutal invasion. But how can Elara save her sister, her best friend, her country, and her world when she’s already cracking under the pressure?
This heart-pounding conclusion to the Divine Traitors duology pushes these unforgettable heroines to their breaking point and beyond. Because when the lines between hero and villain are blurred, deadly sacrifices must be made.
I find that sequels are hard to review at times. Mainly because I want to avoid spoilers for people who haven't read the first book and for people who haven't read the second. So I try to keep it simple. So Let Them Burn was probably one of my top 10, maybe even top 5, reads of last year. I adored it so much. So I was excited but hesitant to read the sequel.
I can thankfully say that I still really love this series and loved this book! Kamilah Cole's writing hits perfectly for me. It keeps me wildly entertained while also keeping me thinking. There are so many layers to the story that it's fun to be dragged through all of them.
The characters are still...something else. I love these characters. I think Elara is my favorite for now, but I fully expect that that could change during another readthrough. All of the characters in this book are given such depth and dimension that it's hard to say only one is my all-time favorite. I find myself relating to several of the characters in different ways and they all have something that draws me into them.
The story is hard to get into without spoiling anything. But it definitely still carries on the urgent tone that the first book set. It can move quickly at times and there is quite a bit of information to grasp, but I found that none of it detracted from my enjoyment in the story. I just loved being swept along for the ride. The book very much continues the first book's habit of keeping me engaged the entire time. I want to know everything about this world and the characters that inhabit it,
The first time is always the hardest.
Elara didn't know whether she wanted to laugh or drown herself in her teacup.
You are an unstoppable, overwhelming, indescribable force...and they do not deserve you.
Don't you find that maddening?
