"It's a small price to pay for my first ren faire."
Review:
I was super excited about this book! I've got a really soft spot in my heart for queer graphic novels, especially ones that aren't laden with angst. So I was immediately interested in this book and I was so lucky to get accepted into the tour for Hear Our Voices. Make sure to check out the schedule to check out everyone else's posts.
I loved the artwork in this book. I'll admit that I was mildly concerned about the pink tinting/highlighting/coloring being too much after a while but thankfully I never had that issue. It worked really well with the book and just made it look extremely cute. Other than that the characters were drawn differently enough where I never had an issue telling the difference between the characters.
The story was really interesting. I loved the situations that the characters kept finding themselves in, like at the dance, and I thought it progressed really well.
I loved Chloe and Hawkins!!! They were both amazing characters and I loved watching their relationship progress. It moved steadily and I loved the little hints to their history. It was absolutely adorable and great to watch these characters interact with one another!!
There was only one thing keeping me from giving this a full five stars and that was Regina. She wasn't a bad character necessarily, but she got on my nerves more than I was expecting. It just...didn't work for me.
I would honestly love to read more books by this author featuring these characters. Give me a sequel set in college and I am set!! I would also take a cute prequel of Hawkins and Chloe as children.
