Review: BEETLE & THE HOLLOWBONES by Aliza Layne

Title: Beetle & the Hollowbones
Author: Aliza Layne
Publication Date: August 4, 2020

Finish Date: October 25, 2021
Format: Physical
Rating: 5/5

The cover of this book was all I needed to see to know that I wanted to read it. It didn’t disappoint.

I absolutely adored this book. It was colorful and cute with a side of seriousness. Nothing was taken too seriously and the serious moments made for a perfect balance against the colorful backdrops and relatively whimsicalness of the rest of the book.

The art was so beautiful! I loved it. Each character was given a unique design that helped showcase their personality while also helping to differentiate the various characters from each other. Also, I am obsessed with Beetle’s cat.

This story is quite lighthearted. There are serious moments where evil has to be overcome, but then there are lighter more amusing scenes. The ending…the ending was everything I could have wanted it to be.

I have a growing list of books I want to see turned into shorts/cartoons/movies/etc. and this one is definitely up there.
