Review:
I will never not jump at the chance to read a book by Rick Riordan. I don't fully need to know what it's about. He's an auto-read author for me ever since I read Percy Jackson. There was no other choice for me. I will say that I've never read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It's just never really caught my interest. I might have to give it a shot now after this book. I was beyond excited to be accepted into a blog tour for this book. I was so excited!

This book! What can I say about this book! I absolutely adored Ana and her friends. Even the bad guys in the book were compelling and I could sort of understand their point. The plot was entrancing. I couldn't put the book down when I was reading it. This book was everything that I could have hoped for, likely even more.

So.let me talk about these characters. Ana is an interesting character. She's strong and smart, but she has her own issues surrounding her age, parents, and her brother. By age I mean that she is a teenager who acts and thinks a bit like a teenager. She's not quite a teenager (she usually acts more mature than the average teenager but that kind of makes sense because of the circumstances and school she attends), but she has her moments. I loved her. She was an amazing character.

Now it's time for the side characters. There were a few main side characters, primarily Gemini and Ana's friends, that I absolutely loved. Each character was allowed to be complex without overshadowing Ana or taking over the story. None of their backstories seemed fake or forced in. I personally loved Ester the most. Something about her seemed familiar and safe. She was a fun character.

The plot of this book was so much fun. I did think it took a bit for it to pick up pace, but once it got moving it didn't slow down. None of the plot seemed forced in and it moved a comfortable pace. Even the beginning (which I thought was a bit slower) wasn't slow because it had nowhere to go but rather because it had to build up to the main action. From then on everything moved at a good pace, it did speed up when deemed necessary but never seemed rushed.

I'm going to be as vague as possible, but I'm not sure how I feel about the twist. It wasn't bad and it made sense, I just don't know if I loved it. I'm torn and I doubt I'll ever be able to figure out whether I liked it or would have preferred a different twist.

I don't think I had any real issues with this book. My biggest issue is probably the way the school is referred to. I'll be honest and say that I didn't enjoy that it was constantly shortened to HP. My own personal issues, I know, but it is something that bugged me a bit.

I loved this book! It was so much fun, and I absolutely adored it! I believe this is a standalone novel, but if Riordan ever wants to write more with Ana and her friends, I certainly won't complain.
