I've been spending a lot of time on Booktube recently and I came across the "Do I Have That Book Challenge". I was interested in the challenge but I own a lot of books, I'd likely have something for everything in that challenge.
I decided to make the challenge a little more difficult. I would only use the books that are on my LGBTQ+ bookcase. (Yes, I have a bookcase just dedicated to those books.) This would make it more difficult. I did this challenge like a month ago and I've bought more books since then. I'll mention if any of the new books I bought fit a category.
1. Do you have a book with deckled edges?
No, I don't know if I missed a book but I couldn't find one with deckled edges. I'm not a huge fan of deckled edges so I'm not exactly crushed that I don't own one.
2. Do you have a book with three or more people on the cover?
This one felt a bit like a struggle because most of my books tend to only have one or two people on the cover. I was able to find Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan though. That one has several people, six I believe, on the cover.
3. Do you have a book based on another fictional story?
Unburied Fables is an anthology including stories written by various authors with one similar theme. They take a fairy tale, myth, folk tale and they make it queer with a happy ending.
4. Do you have a book with a title 10 letters long?
This one was very annoying to find because I had to go through and count letters while also trying to find a book that I don't think would fit another category. Homecoming by Celeste Castro fit this category and I had strong doubts that it would count for anything else.
5. Do you have a book with a title that starts and ends with the same letter?
Another category that took longer than I expected it to. Shared Winds is written by Kenna White and the title starts and ends with an S.
6. Do you have a mass market paperback book?
I currently own two, but at the time I only owned the one book. The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite is a historical romance book that was printed as a mass market paperback. Also, I'm a huge fan of mass market books.
7. Do you have a book written by an author using a pen name?
I chose Safe Harbor by Radclyffe even though I don't know if it quite fits the question. She does have a pen name, this isn't it but it's the best I have. There could also be several lesfic authors who write under a pen name, but I don't know that for sure so I don't know.
8. Do you have a book with a character's name in the title?
I had multiple choices for this book, but I chose Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky.
9. Do you have a book with two maps in it?
I think I would have difficulty finding a book with two maps in my entire collection, but there was no way of me finding one in just my LGBTQ+ collection.
10. Do you have a book that was turned into a TV show?
I wasn't positive about this one but Lumberjanes is, apparently, becoming an animated show. I chose the novel version of this series just because it was easier to reach.
11. Do you have a book written by someone who was originally famous for something else?
This one might be a bit of a cop out but I chose My Drunk Kitchen by Hannah Hart. Technically not a queer book, but I've included it on my shelf because of Hannah Hart. I also own Being Jazz by Jazz Jennings and that could have, roughly, fit this category too.
12. Do you have a book with a clock on the cover?
I found this book when I was organizing my book collection and apparently it's queer. So Timekeeper by Tara Sim is my pick for this question.
13. Do you have a poetry book?
I own October Mourning by Lesléa Newman. This book is a novel in verse about Matthew Shepard. Not positive if that counts as a poetry book, but I decided to count it.
14. Do you have a book with an award stamp on it?
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides has the Pulitzer Prize stamp on it's cover. I almost missed this book when I was doing this challenge but stumbled across it when I was about to give up.
15. Do you have a book written by an author with the same initials as you?
My initials are E.J.D. I would have preferred to find someone who matched all three initials but the first and the last work too. The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth was really my only choice for this question.
16. Do you have a book of short stories?
I own several, but I've owned How Beautiful the Ordinary the longest so it was chosen for this category.
17. Do you have a book that is between 500 and 510 pages long?
At the time of doing this challenge I didn't own a book, but now I do. However, because of the controversial nature of the author I'm not going to mention what book it was.
18. Do you have a book that was turned into a movie?
This was an obvious pick. I own Simon vs. The Homo-Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. Let's ignore the fact that I've still not read the book.
19. Do you have a graphic novel?
I own four or so that could have fit for this category. My newest one is Princess Princess: Ever After by Kay O'Neill. As a side note though, I would recommend the Lumberjanes series as well.
20. Do you have a book written by two or more authors?
I struggled with this question because I was missing an obvious answer. Lethal Affairs by Kim Baldwin & Xenia Alexiou. The two of them wrote the Elite Operatives series together and I bought and read the first book in the series this year.
Total Time Taken: 10:32
This was a really fun challenge for me to do, especially because I limited the books I could search through. If I ever find the time and energy, I might do the follow-up challenge as well.
Hope you have a good day!
