Review: LITTLE LAMB by Cirrus Rae

Cirrus Rae popped up on my TikTok feed one day and then just...never left. I only recently got into dark romance (or in this case, erotic thriller) type of books, but when I first heard about the Masked Masc series, I knew that I wanted to read them. A trio of books each following their own romance with, as the name implies, a masked masc. Chasing and stalking galore, I was sold on these books. As soon as I saw the application for ARC readers, I applied. I held my breath, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best. My joy when I got that email saying that I had been chosen was immeasurable.

A book for those who watched Scream and wanted a chase scene of their own (minus the death and with a bit more spice, of course). Little Lamb, and the rest of the series, are erotic thrillers so make sure to check out the content and trigger warnings included below. Happy reading!

Nessa

I should’ve stayed home. It was supposed to be one harmless night. A stupid dare. Instead, I’m trapped, stalked, and hunted by a masked stranger that terrifies me as much as it turns me on. Every step I take to escape drags me closer to her, to the heat between us, to the parts of myself I swore I’d never give away.

Ez

I’ve been watching Nessa for weeks. Quiet. Lonely. Desperate to be accepted. Waiting for someone to see her. Tonight, I’ll give her what she’s been craving. I don’t need her to run...I just need her to beg to stay.

Did I receive an ARC of this book at a busy time when I had several other projects and books to read? Yes, I did. Did I stop all of that just to read this book? Yes.

And I've got no shame in it either. I had been looking forward to this book since I first saw Cirrus Rae's tiktok account. One post about reading masked men and pretending they were women and I was gone. Sold. Not to be brought back. I wanted to read the Masked Masc books.

Something that I think is important to acknowledge about this book, beyond the fact that you definitely need to check the trigger warnings to determine if reading this book is for you, is that this is a novella. It's 105 pages. If you go into it with the mindset of a 400 page slow-burn romance, you're going to be very disappointed. This isn't that. It's an erotic thriller novella. Personally I'd categorize it as a romance since it does have a HEA/HFN. But being a novella means that it's an instant sort-of relationship. Not a lot of time for deep development, but enough to make the book work.

With that out of the way, let's talk about my feelings on this book. Put simply: I devoured it and loved it. It hit my metrics for a good book. I enjoyed the characters and thought that they had enough similarities to draw them together, but enough differences to tell them apart. I thought the writing style suited the genre of book and I felt as though the voices were distinctive to me. The plot is simple, but again it works for the genre. And the sex scenes were honestly amazing and I enjoyed them very much.

I think your enjoyment of this book will be based on your expectations going into it. Do you want a quick book with chasing and knife play? This book might be right up your alley! Do you want something with hot sex scenes and kinks? Check this book out! Read the book for what it is and don't expect more from it. I would love an additional 100+ pages of Nessa and Ez, but I didn't feel as though I needed it. I knew what I was getting into with this book and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I cannot wait for the release of the other two books (Into the Fire and Till Death). You can bet that I'm going to read them both!
