The stretches

Review:
I was super excited when I learned that this book was being released. A graphic book about binding. It includes some health facts and stretches, but it primarily focuses on a few individuals personal experiences with binding.

The stories told in this book is beautiful! Each individual is talking about their experiences with their gender and binding and it’s truly an amazing experience. I especially loved it when the individuals acknowledged that how they had started binding wasn’t safe. It’s important to acknowledge that we don’t always get it right, and that that’s okay and that you can learn better.

The art in this book is descriptive. I don’t have a better way to describe it. It’s not the clean-polished and colorful art that I’m used to seeing in middle grade graphic novels. It’s also not rough and bare. It can be rough around the edges at times, but typically that’s to fit the story being told. The art suits this medium of story-telling very well.

I really appreciate the information at the back of the book as well. Binding can be scary at times. Especially when you’re first trying to bind, but you want to do it safely. There is so much information out there that the odds of people coming across inaccurate information are high. It’s beneficial to have a book that can work as a “beginner’s guide” of sorts.

I really wish this had been a longer book, but I understand wanting to keep it straight to the point. I just love books like this, a similar title is Fine by Rhea Ewing, and I would happily spend hours reading those books.

Other than that, I only have one minor issue with the book and it’s not strictly about the book. When I first started binding all information told me to not wear it while doing any form of exercise. Towards the end of this book there is an illustration about wearing a binder while swimming. Personally, I just wish someone had given more information about that because I was always told not to unless I went with a bigger size. It’s not necessarily an issue, just something I wish had been expanded on.

I thought this was a great book. A nice, quick read with a good amount of information on binding. I loved that it gave space for other people to talk about their experiences with binding! It was a fun and informative read and I am so glad that a book like this exists.
