Review:
I don't know what it is about this book that drew me towards reading it. It's an interesting premise, sure, but not usually one that would draw me in. But it did. I just had to read it.

Characters can make or break a book. I was very happy to find that the characters in this book were nice. Shaylie is a nice character who is trying to readjust after being one of 11 survivors in a plane crash. Piper is dealing with losing both her fiancé and her best friend in that same crash. The two have a very nice connection with each other. It didn't feel like the friendship between the two was rushed or forced, rather the friendship was given time to build up. It was a sweet relationship. I might have personally preferred more time with the two supporting each other through their problems, but there was time and it was established.

That's another thing that can mess with a romance book: the relationship. The relationship between Shay and Piper was one that was built up first as a friendship. It gave them a good base where they were able to get to know each other and didn't just immediately jump into a relationship. There was also quite a bit of hesitance on their parts (more Shay's because we were experiencing the book from her point-of-view) to go forward because of what happened in the crash. The relationship was good. I thought it was well-established and the two had good chemistry. I wasn't stunned by it or anything, but I also didn't find it bad or boring.

I'm a huge fan of side characters and I absolutely love Jason and Marisa. They were both interesting characters that provided nice support to Shay and helped when things got rough. It might have been nice to have Piper's point-of-view as well to see her support system, but I get why we weren't switching POVs.

I have complicated feelings around this book. I wanted to really like it and I did for a while. But then, for no reason I can pinpoint, I just stopped caring. The characters were good. I was a big fan of the relationship that developed and the time it was given to develop. The angst was forced or unnecessary. Nothing really seemed to change. Just somewhere along the line, I couldn't get into it anymore. This feels like it might be a me issue. I might have to reread this book in the future and see if it just wasn't vibing well with me that day.
