Favorite Quote/Scene:
The reveal about Valley's bullying

Review:
I was excited about this book the second I heard of it. I'll admit that after everything that went down with.that author I've been hoping to eventually find a nice fantasy series that was inclusive. So Ortega's book seemed like the perfect solution.

I am completely obsessed with these characters. I love them all so much. Seven is an absolute force of nature that's determined to make the most out of being sorted as a Spare. Valley is my personal favorite. A bully with a chip on her shoulder. Thorn is an absolute sweetheart trying to keep the two from fighting all the time. The dynamic between the three was a lot of fun, I especially love Valley and Seven's bickering. Sometimes the stubborn-headness of the characters was a bit annoying, but I still loved them.

The fantasy and magic in this world is amazing. Sometimes I have issues with magic and not being able to keep up with things, but this one was pretty easy. The magic seemed to be well-defined and built.

This was an amazing story. Personally I found it to be enthralling to read and the writing was so good I got goosebumps at points. The world was built in a beautifully dark way with such an amazing ambiance.

Also, the toad racing part has me way too interested in watching toads race. I need this now. Plus, the name Edgar Alan Toad is glorious!

This was a great book. It's a middle-grade fantasy book and I believe it's going to be a series. I absolutely loved every second of this book. The characters were a lot of fun and I absolutely loved them. The dynamic between the main three characters was exciting and fun, even when they were bickering and Thorn was trying to keep them friends. Trying not to be spoilery but the reveal with Valley was my absolute favorite thing in the world. The magic sounded absolutely amazing and I am enthralled. Also, the setting and description in this book were captivating and would draw me in and give me goosebumps. I was appropriately creeped out by the situations.
