Review:
I didn’t really read the summary of this book before buying it. I’ve read several books by Lesley Davis prior and I enjoyed them. I figured it was worth a shot to see what this book had in store.

Chastilian is full of crime, but there are also the Sentinels. The Sentinels and their Sighted watch over the city and try to keep its residents safe. Pagan is a security specialist who moonlights as a Sentinel. She works in both of the family businesses, but one day she violates her oath. She meets Erith while out working and the two are drawn to each other. When Pagan discovers one of Erith’s secrets, she breaks the rules in order to make sure that the other woman is safe.

This book was absolutely astounding. I loved every second of it. I was immediately drawn into the story and the book kept its claws in me the entire time. It was so amazing that I just wanted more with this cast of characters.

The one word that I find keeps popping into my head when describing this book is “badass”. It’s the best description that I have. The action in this book is so amazing and written so well that I could visualize what was going on. The author knew when to make something more fast-paced and when to slow it down a bit in order to allow the characters to bond.

I absolutely loved all the characters in this book. Pagan, Erith, Melina, Rogue. They were all amazing characters. I was immediately drawn to them. Pagan, Rogue, and Melina had such amazing interactions as a family that I just wanted more of them just casually being around each other. Erith added for another dynamic that fit well within the current story.

I do think there is something that others would have a problem with, but it didn’t bother me. The romance in this book is a little bit love at first sight sort of thing. There’s not a whole lot of time dedicated to allowing the two to become friends before they become more. I think the book could have used more of those scenes, but I also didn’t mind that it didn’t have it.

I absolutely loved the action in this book and the kind of action parts. The way the author wrote the fighting felt amazing and well-handled. I was drawn into the fights, and it felt like reading a superhero movie. But it wasn’t just the fights. It’s also the entire way the vigilantism was handled. The way that they “flew” through the town and stalked the people they were watching. It all just seemed so amazing! I didn’t expect for the action to be one of my favorite parts of this book, but it is.

One thing I would have liked is a prequel to this book. A book where the relationship between Melina and Rogue while also allowing us to see Pagan grow up. I just think it would have been a really cool dynamic, plus I really like Rogue and want to know more about her.

I won’t ever try to portray this book as perfect. There are problems in it. The thing is: none of them really bothered me. As a reviewer I’m biased, this time for the good. None of the problems outweighed the things that I loved.
