This is a cute graphic novel. It’s not heavy or deep, but it’s an interesting read that’s ranked as a middle grade/YA book. It’s not amazing, but it’s okay.
Callie is a genuinely likeable character. She does seem a bit, not desperate but determined, to have a boyfriend and that’s a bit annoying. She has a decent group of friends and she is more than willing to call out when one of her friends is pulling a “nice guy” move on her. She’s not amazing or deep or anything, but she’s not bad.
I like that this book didn’t shy away from having gay characters or having mean characters. These two aren’t related but it’s the fact that Raina was fine showing everyone as they should have been shown. Callie’s friend was being a jerk with his actions, one of the brother’s happens to be out and proud. It’s who they are and it’s acknowledged.
I wish I had more to say about this book. Callie is okay and I love Jesse and Justin, but that’s about it. The problem is I read this book about a month ago. It’s a good book, but it’s also kind of forgettable.
