Review: Heart Failure

Heart Failure Heart Failure by Chris Zett
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Finished on April 30, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "She could stay here forever. It felt like home."

I was interested in this book, but I found that it didn’t go how I was expecting. My expectations had Jess having to move back in with her mom and getting to know Lena and changing. That did happen, but so did other things that I didn’t enjoy.

Review: Far from Home

Far from Home Far from Home by Lorelie Brown
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 29, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "So many promises over the years. So sad that no one ever manages to back up bragging like that."
"Never? You poor, neglected thing."

I liked this book a lot more than I was ever anticipating. I thought it was amazing and I loved that it was written in a first-person point of view because the author wrote Rachel’s thoughts and feelings so well.

Royal Family Royal Family by Jenny Frame
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 29, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "I know who you are in here and I'm falling for you. Everything else is just details."

4.5/5 rounded up

I was really excited to read this book. I’ve read the three previous books in the Royal series and I was so happy when I was able to borrow this book. This book lived up to most of my hopes.

Review: The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics

The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 27, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "So much for fossils. Something here still lived."

4.5/5 rounded up

I was a bit wary of this book at first because I thought there’d be too much drama, too many historical references, or even too much science. While these things did exist, none of them were overpowering and they made the book great.

Review: Kim Reaper, Vol. 2: Vampire Island

Kim Reaper, Vol. 2: Vampire Island Kim Reaper, Vol. 2: Vampire Island by Sarah Graley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 26, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: Kim's kidnapping from her point of view

This is the second Kim Reaper volume, and it was cute. I didn’t like it as much as the first one though.

Review: Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me

Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Mariko Tamaki
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 25, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "It could be worse."
"How?"
"You don't have to battle to the death with anyone."

I now understand why this book seemed to be mentioned/visible on everyone’s bookshelves when they were discussing LGBTQ+ books. This is a graphic novel that, in hardcover form, is just short of 300 pages and I loved every second of it.

Review: Just Enough Light

Just Enough Light Just Enough Light by A.J. Quinn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 25, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "No problem. But judging by the smile on your face, I hope you let it wander wherever it went more often."

I got about a quarter through this book before I realized that it seemed very familiar and that I had read it previously. It’s been long enough though that I decided to keep reading this book since I couldn’t remember most of what happened.

Review: In the Spotlight

In the Spotlight In the Spotlight by Lesley Davis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 20, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "I'll remember that. Just you and me, an open road, the thrum of the engine between our legs."
"I knew the cycle would be a turn-on."

I feel very fortunate that I was able to receive an early release e-version of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. I am a huge Lesley Davis fan, and this book did not disappoint.

Review: Side Effects

Side Effects Side Effects by V.K. Powell
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Finished on April 23, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "I want you so badly my whole body aches, but I can't."

I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this book. Parts of it were interesting enough, but other parts didn’t feel earned.

Review: Starstruck

Starstruck Starstruck by Lesley Davis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished reading on April 22, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Pity, I'm sure that gorgeous British voice would sound amazing screaming in a much more pleasurable context."

4.5/5

I got the urge to re-read this book after reading the sequel to it. I couldn’t remember a lot of this book so it felt good to re-read it. I quite enjoyed this book and even noticed something that I didn't notice in my first read through.

Review: Eight Kinky Nights

Eight Kinky Nights Eight Kinky Nights by Xan West
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 21, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Gender feels: not just for trans and non-binary folks."

Due to the nature of this book I will be hiding the main review under a read more. This is because this book speaks a lot about kink and other things that aren't appropriate for those under 18.

Review: Kim Reaper Vol. 1: Grim Beginnings

Kim Reaper Vol. 1: Grim Beginnings Kim Reaper Vol. 1: Grim Beginnings by Sarah Graley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished reading on April 19, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: The reaping of Ched

This graphic novel is adorable. It’s not a deep piece or anything like that; it’s just fun. There are cats to be reaped, ghouls to be punched, and zombies to be beaten.

Review: 44 Hours

44 Hours 44 Hours by Donna Jay

This was a nice, fun read devoid of overly serious angst.

Review: Detour to Love

Detour to Love Detour to Love by Amanda Radley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 15, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Are you inviting me to the middle of nowhere to blow stuff up? That sounds super dangerous."

3.5/5 rounded up

This was an interesting premise, but I just wish there was more to the book.

Review: A Curious Woman

A Curious Woman A Curious Woman by Jess Lea
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 15, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Really, Bess, you do make yourself an easy target. Why didn't you just write them out a confession in triplicate?"

This was an interesting book. I honestly don’t read many “cozy mystery” books as it’s tagged so I wasn’t too sure what to expect out of it. In that regard, it was better than I imagined.

Review: White Wings Weeping

White Wings Weeping White Wings Weeping by Lesley Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 13, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "You know I think you’re all certifiably crazy, don’t you?"
"Then you’re in good company, aren’t you?"

This is the third book in Lesley Davis’ Wings series, and I highly recommend reading these books in order so that you have a full understanding of what’s going on.

This is probably my least favorite of the series. It’s well-written and intriguing, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a lot more focused on all the supernatural stuff than on the romance.

Review: Second Chances

Second Chances Second Chances by A.E. Radley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 12, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "You've had a date with the woman and you don't even know her name. Thank goodness you didn't get lucky, that would have been some weird sex talk."

I’ve read a handful of books by Radley and I’ve enjoyed all of them, even with certain plot issues. This book is my favorite of hers so far though.

Review: Back to September

Back to September Back to September by Melissa Brayden
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Finished on April 12, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Yes. Gandalf in sneakers, I love girls with pencils in their hair! I wish all of them came that way."

3.5/5 rounded down

This was a cute enough book but I just didn’t find myself invested in it.

Review: Night Call

Night Call Night Call by Radclyffe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 10, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "I'm like that with you, only worse. It's like...I feel sometimes if I can't get inside you, own you, make you want me that way, I'll die."

This is the second Radclyffe book I’ve read this week after years of never having touched her books and I have plans to read more soon enough. I might be hooked.

Review: Hidden Truths

Hidden Truths Hidden Truths by Jae
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 9, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Sometimes, falling in love doesn't mean you'll heave a happily-ever-after."

I finally got around to reading the sequel to Backwards to Oregon and I think I love it more than the first book. As much as I loved to read about Nora and Luke falling in love, somehow Rika and Amy were better.

Review: Gulf Breeze

Gulf Breeze Gulf Breeze by Gerri Hill
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 9, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: Waiting out the storm together

I absolutely adore this book, even if it might contain flaws. This is one of those books where I tend to overlook the flaws and problems because I just love it.

Review: Dreams

Dreams Dreams by Serena J. Bishop
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 9, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "If a dream sex wakes up the passionate beast within me, I'll start dating."

I really wish I liked this book more. It’s not a bad book, but it’s not the best book. It was engaging at times but there were times when the story just felt like it was dragging.

Review: Passion's Bright Fury

Passion's Bright Fury Passion's Bright Fury by Radclyffe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 8, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: July 3rd when they're at the bar

4.75/5 rounded up

I’ve not read a Radclyffe book before this one, despite how popular she seems to be in the FF category of books. I’m really happy that this book was my first one from her.

Review: Tell Me How You Really Feel

Tell Me How You Really Feel Tell Me How You Really Feel by Aminah Mae Safi
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 8, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "The nice thing about life, and not the movies, is that there's no curtains, no The End. You can always write your own story."

I thought this was a really cute story. The characters are likeable, for the most part, and their situations are realistic. It’s adorable to watch the two of them get forced together for the project and watch how they deal with their circumstances.

Review: Lethal Affairs

Lethal Affairs Lethal Affairs by Kim Baldwin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 8, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "You've never broken a promise?"
"No, never. I've never promised anything to anyone."

4.5/5 rounded up

I enjoyed this book more than I had ever expected to. I love Kim Baldwin’s writings, but I’ve been avoiding this book because I don’t always like action books. This book impressed me and managed to keep me engaged the entire time I was reading it.

Review: Something to Talk About

Something to Talk About Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Finished on April 8, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Dude. She wants to wife you."

I absolutely adored this book. It is a slow-burn romance, maybe a super slow-burn, but it was adorable and I loved it so much.

Review: Drama

Drama Drama by Raina Telgemeier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 8, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "We're the cool kids, he's the dork."

This is a cute graphic novel. It’s not heavy or deep, but it’s an interesting read that’s ranked as a middle grade/YA book. It’s not amazing, but it’s okay.

Review: Outsiders

Outsiders Outsiders by Lynn Ames
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 7, 2021
Favorite Story: Billy Boy by Susan Smith

This anthology consists of five different novella, one written by each author. The stories vary in plot and none of the plots were even remotely similar to any other plot. The stories are relatively interesting, and it was altogether a good read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Finished on April 5, 2021
Favorite Scene/Quote: "Emily wasn't likely to forgive her for what she was about to do. No matter; it was the right thing, and she'd do it-whatever the fallout might be."

4.25/5

I was hesitant to pick up this book after finishing the last one, but I also really wanted to know how the story of Emily and Olivia would end. I ended up checking out this book a few hours after finishing the first book and I’m quite glad that I did.
